The Fifth Academic Forum of Chinese and Foreign Students and China-Russia Medical Education Sharing Conference of HMU was successfully held
On the afternoon of May 19, 2026, the Fifth Academic Forum of Chinese and Foreign Students and the China-Russia Medical Education Sharing Conference were successfully held in the Wuhan Lecture Hall of the Harbin Medical University library. Representatives from Harbin Medical University, Ulyanovsk State University, Voronezh State Medical University, Irkutsk State Medical University, and the Almazov National Medical Research Centre attended the event. Chinese and international students, together with faculty representatives, also participated in the conference. The event consisted of two parts: the China-Russia Medical Education Sharing Conference and the Fifth Academic Forum of Chinese and Foreign Students. The academic forum was chaired by Jack, a 2024 National Scholarship master’s student, while the China-Russia Medical Education Sharing Conference was chaired by Professor Liu Yizhi from the School of International Education.
The China-Russia Medical Education Sharing Conference invited senior experts in medical education from China and Russia to deliver keynote speeches on topics such as talent development models, innovation in medical education, and the integration of digital technology with healthcare. The conference provided a high-level platform for academic exchange among students and teachers. Professor Rosperova Maria Livova, President of the Academy of Advanced and Youth Sciences at the Almazov National Medical Research Centre in Russia, systematically introduced the centre’s mature system for attracting and training young medical talents. She also explained the concept of cultivating “doctor-researchers” in the 21st century, providing valuable reference for the full-cycle development of medical professionals. Professor Alexeyeva Natalia Yuryevna from Irkutsk State Medical University focused on the innovative application of artificial intelligence in medical education and oral medicine. Her presentation demonstrated the broad prospects of digital technology in empowering medical education and clinical services. Professor Zhong Zhaohua from Harbin Medical University delivered a keynote report entitled “Current Status and Development Direction of International Medical Education in China.” He comprehensively reviewed the development history, current challenges, and future direction of international medical education in China, offering scientific guidance for the international development of medical education at universities and regional institutions.
At the Fifth Academic Forum of Chinese and Foreign Students, students from Voronezh State Medical University, Ulyanovsk State University, and Harbin Medical University gathered to deliver academic presentations on frontier topics in basic medicine, clinical medicine, public health, pharmacy, and other fields. Their presentations fully demonstrated the academic competence and international vision of young Chinese and international medical students. A total of 12 Chinese and international students presented their research achievements and academic ideas. The topics covered areas such as the diagnosis of non-suicidal self-injury in adolescents with bipolar disorder, fracture healing in diabetic patients, mechanisms of cardiac hypertrophy, artificial intelligence-assisted medical treatment, and the molecular mechanisms of osteoarthritis. These topics reflected both innovation and practical value.
Professor Ling Hong, Director of the School Inspection Committee for International Students in China; Professor Zhong Shaohua, Principal Investigator at the Woodland Institute for Biomedical Innovation and Director of the Level-3 Biosafety Laboratory; and Professor Liu Yu from the Department of Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University were invited to serve as review experts. They evaluated and guided the students’ presentations from the perspectives of scientific innovation, experimental rigor, and presentation quality, thereby supporting the academic growth of young students.
As an important part of the China-Russia Medical Innovation Forum, the Academic Forum of Chinese and Foreign Students is also one of the academic activities organized to celebrate the centenary of Harbin Medical University and deepen educational and teaching reform. The successful organization of this forum not only established a high-quality platform for mutual learning in medical education between China and Russia, but also promoted academic exchange among Chinese and international students. It further demonstrated the university’s achievements in international education and the sense of mission and responsibility of young medical students.
In the future, the School of International Education will continue to use the “Studying at Harbin Medical University” brand activity as a platform to organize diverse academic and cultural exchange activities. The school will further deepen practical cooperation in medical education between China and Russia, broaden the development pathways of Chinese and international students, and contribute to cultivating more medical talents with international vision, professional competence, and a strong sense of responsibility. With a shared commitment to medicine, students and educators will continue working together toward a better future.
